Tesla Motors launches its affordable electric vehicle Model 3 to lead the electric vehicle market and cut down the emission levels

On Thursday, the launch of Tesla’s new electrically powered automobile looked like the release of an iPhone as huge lines of keen customers, a glossy vehicle and the company’s CEO Elon Musk presenting it in an ordinary black shirt. Little new details were disclosed regarding the Model 3, but with the vehicle’s 215 miles of vehicle range at an affordable price of $35,000, the company is making an effort to turn into a mass-market of electric vehicle.

Pre-orders has reached 115,000 units from across the world and continued to grow last night, over the total units of EVs delivered in the US in 2015. The automaker has over 100,000 vehicles on the road till December 2015.

It took three vehicles to get there, stated Musk. “With any new technology, it takes multiple iterations and economies of scale before you can make it affordable, “Elon spoke at the launch event held at the design studio in Hawthorne, California.

The company yet faces many barriers such as manufacturing delays as well as lack of strong dealership network. But Elon has anticipated unlocking EVs for a large number of people for years.

The Model X and Model S, delivering particularly for about $70,000 and over $120,000, have up till now continued to be niche products.

“The X and the S are what paid for that Model 3 development,” Elon said. He described it as a not too much secret master plan.

The vehicle will have an Environmental Protection Agency rating of at least 215 miles per charge. The vehicle’s base model will speed up from 0 to 60 miles per hour within 6 seconds, two times that of Model S, although a number of models might run at a faster pace.

It will seat 5 “comfortably” by compressing its front panel but will provide maintenance to rear and front cargo trunks of the earlier models. The car’s base model will be equipped with autopilot hardware.

One glass panel comprises the car roof, which makes it look sleek. Elon pointed that the car will have extra whistles and bells, which could increase its price for everyone who opts for them. Before officially announcing, he pledged a  “Part 2” of the vehicle closer to manufacturing.

In the US, EV sales have gone up to 420,000 units since 2010, which is quite lower than the 1 million objective of President Barak Obama. A limited charging infrastructure and range have up till now constrained sales.

Around 24 battery as well as plug-in electrically powered automobile models, by General Motors, Toyota Motors Corporation, Volkswagen AG and Ford Motors company and the rest of major automakers, were delivered on the market of the United States in 2015.

In recent times, Hyundai Motor Company announced its plug-in hybrid and hybrid electric versions. Many ranges continue to be remain below 100 miles. But that is changing.

GM announced its EV Chevrolet Bolt, which could be offered at a price of $37,500 with its 200-mile range, in Jan 2016. It could launch out in the later part of 2015.

Tack on the incentives provided by the state as well as federal tax credits worth $7500, and Bolt and Model 3 could deliver at a price lesser than $30,000. The California based company holds the belief that the affordable version of Tesla will help increase production at its factory in Fremont, California to half a million per year.
