Tesla batteries would be utilized to power buildings in Los Angeles.

Tesla Motors would be charging offices in America soon. A huge real estate company and a well-known technology company have planned to equip office buildings in Los Angeles district with Tesla’s batteries. On Monday, the private real estate development firm, The Irvine Company, and the startup, Advanced Microgrid Solutions, proclaimed that they have decided to establish huge battery farms – each around the size of five parking facilities – at buildings situated in Irvine, California.

Tesla News affirmed that the startup’s software could help offices to use the power stored by the batteries when demand for electricity has attained higher levels on the electricity grid as happens in hot summer afternoons when air conditioners are frequently used. This relieves some of the burden on the grid during peak times.

The agreement is part of AMS’s work with the local enterprise, Southern California Edison, to offer it with power supplies equivalent to 50 megawatts of power storage systems. As part of this, AMS intends to fix about 10 megawatts of batteries in Irvine next year. 10 megawatts is sufficient electricity to power around 10,000 houses.

For the sake of comparison, GTM Research makes an estimation that around gadgets equipped with the capacity of storing 220 megawatts would be fixed around the U.S. this year. Tesla News today reported that Southern California Edison has planned to install 250 megawatts in its hometown over the coming few years.

Utilities can use electricity-storing devices to ensure the grid becomes steadier, and to stop establishing new costly and dirty electricity producing facilities that they only run during times of peak power demand. California has also needed service providers to mutually install over a gigawatt of power storage by 2020.

Tesla Motors News explains that a gigawatt of electricity is around the equivalent of a huge natural gas or nuclear facility. Owners of buildings are also interested in purchasing the power-storing devices so that they could use battery power for buildings when energy rates from power grid are quite high.

Office owners could cut down their monthly power bills by shifting to battery power occasionally. AMS would initially install Tesla batteries at 24 buildings managed by the real estate firm. The companies stated that those power-storing devices could cut down peak energy demand on the grid by 25%.

In May, Tesla established a new energy division that delivers the same lithium-ion batteries, which it utilizes in its vehicles, to utilities, house owners, and battery venture developers. Owners of offices and service providers would mostly employ what the automaker calls “Powerpack batteries”, whereas the smaller house power-storage systems would be dependent on what the company refers to as its Powerwall batteries.

It is quite likely that the recent development would simplify the difficulties of the American residents.
