Toronto City Council's Endeavors To Regulate Uber

Uber news today

The Canadian authorities are about to find new means to regulate Uber.

Uber is soon expected to be regulated in a different manner. Uber news reported that the city council of Toronto has finally decided to review the city’s transportation laws to regulate cab companies. The officials of the city would now explore the means by the cab service could be regulated in the Canadian territory. Mayor John Tory has played a significant role in supporting the move.

Uber news today exclaimed that the council easily ratified this decision. A council member’s unexpected motion for greater levels of enforcement until the staff reports back was also supported in an overwhelming manner. The Mayor has voted in favor of the transporter, as he voted against urging the police board to act against the firm’s ride hailing service, UberX, which is known for letting ordinary driving partners ride fare-paying passengers without abiding by the laws followed by taxis. He, however, voted to let officers enforce laws against the company.

Uber technologies affirmed that Mr. Tory assures he knows the police is burdened, even in regards to the assignments they have to complete with respect to ‘the Pan Am Games’. Legal experts try to view the means by which the officials would crack against the San Francisco based cab operator, as the regulations encompassing Ontario’s Highway Traffic Act have been passed with the language specifically aiming at the authorized taxicabs.

The authorities have previously maintained an anti-Uber record as Toronto police has penalized the firm’s 11 drivers by imposing 22 charges. Press sources disclosed that 50% of the charges were later withdrawn in the court of law with prosecuting officers accepting that charges cannot be applied.

The representative of Toronto Police, Mark Pugash, has stated that it is an issue between the police board and the council. It would be inadequate to comment. However, experts stated that the decision of the body would ease the difficulties of the regulators, who have previously acted against the interests of the cab service company.

The licensing director of the city, Tracey Cook, has stated that he intends to carry out a crackdown against the ride hailing service provider. He added that the legality of the action is unclear, especially after the city court has ruled that current laws cannot be implemented to regulate the UberX service.

Uber Canada has welcomed the initiative by stating that it intends to continuously cooperate with Mayor and its council. Its executives should now explore the means by which they could address the concerns of the Canadian police.
