The e-commerce giant have been waiting anxiously to launch their drone delivery service; currently waiting for the amendment bill to be passed by regulators.

The Federal Aviation Administration’s reauthorization bill has been approved by the United States Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation, according to a report by TechCrunch. As per the amendment, the FAA is instructed to introduce new regulations and rules for commercial drone deliveries that are to be made by the e-commerce giant, Amazon.com in a time span of two years.

By next month, the bill, which is being pushed to the senate by two lawmakers Senator Cantwell and Senator Heller, is likely to get a final vote. The bill has already been pushed in the pipeline on its way to the legislative chamber. Since there are currently two companies that are involved in commercial drone deliveries Amazon and Google, they are monitoring the matter quite carefully.

Last year, the retailer introduced its ‘Prime Air’ service according to which the packages were to be delivered within 20 minutes after the placement of the order however due to excessive regulation this project by the e-commerce organization was delayed several times.

The amendment stated that in a span of two years after the date of enactment the final rule will be issued by the Secretary of Transportation authorizing the carriage of property by the operating party of the specific aircrafts within the U.S. To make sure that the rules are being followed by technology companies, they have a department that runs all the details through the Capitol Hill. Since these electric drones are becoming quite commercial now; the authorities have introduced new rules and regulations for their use.

In order to avoid any legal hassle, these aerial vehicles (UAVs) are required to get them registered with the FAA since the US Airspace is already caught up with their flights that go in and out of the airports. The authorities are required to take into account that there are already flying objects in the sky and it doesn’t make their lives any better if more such flying objects are operating in the same area. The FAA will need to establish more regulations if these drones will be flying in the same air space as other aircrafts.

Furthermore, these matter needs to be taken quite serious on the FAA’s part as the operators are to have eyes on these drones at all times and the drones introduced by Amazon Prime can be called UAVs as they are smart drones. To ensure adequate deliveries, the e-commerce organization will need to set up specific paths all across the country for the drones so that they are monitored efficiently as well. This might prove to be a tough job for the company to create clear paths due to millions of households.

The amendment will ensure how efficiently these aerial vehicles are functioning and will evaluate them in terms of their performance and safety records. Since they are going to be working on rules that are going to be strict, it will serve as a reminder for the company to adhere to the safety protocols if they don’t want their license to be revoked.

According to recent news, both amazon and google are working on a number of different types of drones for different kind of packages and distances.  Furthermore, it is safe to say that we won’t be getting to see these drones flying any time soon as it entirely depends on how long the regulators to pass the approval.
