The American social networking service provider Facebook uses a database to block child abuse images

The American social networking service provider Facebook has started to battle against child pornography.  Facebook news exclaimed that the company's CEO Mark, has headed an enterprise which is fighting against the interests of child abusers. The website now is using a system that is known for automatically blocking images of child sexual abuse.  A number of other internet organizations are working for the same cause. These encompasses giants like Yahoo, Twitter, Microsoft Corporation and Google. The firms are making use of a database of thousands of known child abuse sex pictures organized by the Internet Watch Foundation known as hash list which aims to block and identify these images.

Facebook news today disclosed that each and every image shared by IWF has been analyzed by a highly trained expert. Each disseminated picture has been assigned a unique code developed.  The picture’s code has been determined after running it through an algorithm. Any copies of the file that are developed will determine the same hash value when assessed, so if any user tries to disseminate the picture on Yahoo, Twitter, Microsoft, Google and Facebook, these organizations will automatically identify the hash value and block the picture.

Facebook Breaking news affirmed that the hashing technology which would be utilized by the enterprises has been pioneered by Page founded company Google and is now being shared with the industry. The IWF has stated that all eligible members would soon be allowed to access the hash list. A similar system is already being employed by Google, Drop box and other firms to ensure that users are prevented from disseminating copyright protected documents with other users.

Chief executive officer of the Internet Watch foundation Susie Hargreaves has stated that the Foundation’s hash list could prove to be a game changer and contest a battle against child sexual harassment online. She added that it meant that the target’s victims could be recognized and removed more rapidly and we can prevent known child abuse pictures from being shared across the internet. Official sources have informed that the hash list is consistently growing in size and has the capacity to reach millions of hashes of pictures.

The Foundation has claimed that it has succeeded in removing around 500 web addresses that expose child sexual abuse content every day, with each containing thousands of pictures. Industry professionals believe that the social network operator’s child friendly initiative would not only benefit children and their parents but also improve its image in the high tech world.
